Frequently Asked Questions
+ How do I Make an Appointment?
You simply call and speak with me directly and I will walk you through what to expect and we can schedule a time that suits you best. Alternatively you can email me if you’d prefer.
+ Are our sessions confidential?
Yes, although there are some exceptions, which you can read about in Information for New Patients on the Contact Page. This will also be discussed at your first session. I want you to feel safe and in control of your information.
+ What’s the difference between Counsellors, Psychologists and Psychiatrists?
A psychologist is a scientist who studies the human mind and behaviour and is a registered health practitioner, so only people who are registered can call themselves a psychologist. Whilst many are highly skilled, anyone can call themselves a counsellor.
A clinical psychologist and a psychiatrist both specialise in mental health, but a psychiatrist is a medical doctor, as opposed to a scientist.
+ Do I need to get a GP referral first?
You do not need to see a GP or have a referral to make an appointment. However, if you would like to receive a Medicare rebate you will need to make an appointment with your GP to assess your mental health and determine whether you have a mental health illness, such as depression, and whether psychology is an appropriate treatment. If so, they can write a referral addressed to me and you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
+ Can you process my Medicare Rebate?
I can process your Medicare rebate at the time of payment, which means you should get the rebate within about 24 hours, however please note there are occasional instances where this does not work as planned.
